We cannot talk about Rioja Alavesa without talking about wine tourism. And we cannot talk about wine tourism without talking about Rioja Alavesa. In this post we show you all the wine tourism plans that you can do here.

1) Discover all kinds of wineries

Among the more than 600 wineries in the Rioja Qualified Denomination of Origin, about 300 are in the province of Álava, so it is possible to visit all kinds of wineries without traveling many kilometers. Around here are some of the importance of Marqués del Riscal and Ysios, but you can find hundreds of different options. In Valdelana we can proudly say that we have one of the oldest wineries in this area, built on a cellar from 1583 that are currently open to visitors.

One of the best wine tourism plans the region offers is learning and enjoying Rioja wine. Almost any winery or wine business in the region offers tastings to those interested and some are very special. For example, our neighbors in El Fabulista offer dramatized visits with wine tasting included. In our case we do some very particular tasting events like our popular stellar pairing.

There are more than 13,000 hectares of vineyards in Rioja Alavesa, so almost any walk in the area becomes pleasant. In addition to this wonderful landscape, the Alava region has a heritage of up to 5000 years old. You will have the perfect plan if you include a stop to rest in wonderful towns like Laguardia, Elciego or Labastida.

4) Drink a glass of wine in unique places

Can you imagine drinking a wine surrounded by vineyards with views of the Ebro river? You can do it in our garden of Varieties! This privileged viewpoint offers one of the best views of Rioja Alavesa. We can also highlight the impressive panorama that Bodegas Baigorri offers from its glass building. But we are not the only ones, the region is full of exceptional places where you can taste a good wine such as Laguardia and its underground cellars or the surprising Hotel Viura.

5) Visit wine museums in Rioja Alavesa

You will not only find shops and wine tastings in the Rioja Alavesa wineries: many of them include museums about this drink. For example, there is an important thematic center on wine in the gastronomic space Villa Lucía, in Laguardia,. We also recommend the Vivanco Wine Culture Museum in Rioja Alta. 7) Discover villages “bathed” in wine

We are not going to insist again on the beauty of the Rioja Alavesa towns, but we would like to emphasize the importance of wine in all of them. You cannot walk through the streets of Villanueva de Álava, Lapuebla, Elvillar, Laciengo or, of course, Elciego or Laguardia without thinking about this drink. You can taste one of the best wines in the world and you will see the influence of wine wherever you go. By the way, if you go to Laguardia, one of our favorite towns, we recommend that you visit that place with our friends from Pepita Uva.

The appearance of Rioja Alavesa in the middle of July does not resemble the color of the region in autumn.
